Bike & beer

On Friday and Saturday I had a couple of nice bike rides to get to beer. Friday I went up to Lefthand [no link since it’s a lame all-flash site], 12+ miles, for an Alers social. They had a nice oak-aged imperial stout on and a decent smoked beer. I thought the Twin Sisters Double IPA on cask was a bit too much alcohol in a cough-syrupy way. They might be making brewing systems out of their scrap kegs- watch for it.

Saturday started out nice but became gloomier and rainier. I missed the showers myself and the hi-40s temps made the ride nice. But caught a ride home to avoid the rain (thx Dave). The rolling hills up US36 were fun (about 16mi), and traffic wasn’t all that bad.

My reward at Oskar Blues was the AHA rally with beer-can chicken and jumbalaya and 10 Fidy Imperial Stout in the Fountain of Truth. The stout was excellent (I’d had it before)- creamy, strong, dark malt flavor and balancing bitterness. They had a new cream ale that was decent, and the Gordon’s IPA always has a nicer malt flavor than I expect. Dale’s and Old Chub of course, both still great. All free once you’re an AHA member. If you have a chance then get to one of these rallies. Thanks OB!
